4 Tips to Make Your Organization Plan a Success
Realize You Probably Won’t Be Organized in a Day
Take a look around. Setting up an organized home takes time. This is probably not a project you will complete on a rainy Saturday afternoon. But, don’t be discouraged, it can be done with effort and time.
Start by making a list of all rooms or spaces in your home that need to be organized and then make a plan to organize them one by one. Start setting dates for when you plan to work on each room or space. Maybe you will work on one room each weekend or 3o minutes each night before you go to bed.
Set Realistic Goals
As you make your organizing plans, set goals for yourself. But, be sure you set realistic goals. If you have busy weekend schedules with your kids and don’t have much time to dedicate to organizing, you will need to factor more time to reach your organizing goals.
For me, a realistic goal might be to organize one closet in a weekend or organize the dressers in my daughters’ room. These projects will take an hour or two each (including cleaning out all the items we don’t need and reorganizing what we keep). Realistically, that’s about all the time I have for organizing projects on the weekends.
But, gradually over time if I stay focused, I will be able to go room by room and organize each one of them.
Work In Time Blocks
When you start an organizing project, you don’t want to start and stop. So, define how much time you have and work in time blocks. Maybe you have 2 hours on Saturday morning from 10:00 am to noon for your organizing project. Then decide what can you organize in 2 hours and get started.
Small blocks of time can mean big bursts of energy too. If you know you only have to organize for 2 hours, you will be more energized and get more done in a limited time.
Always Be Organizing
Once you have a closet, room or space organized, keep it organized. When you put laundry away, put all the clothes in the right drawers. If you use pots and pans in the kitchen, wash them and put them back when you are done cooking.
Get yourself into the mindset of always doing simple organizing tasks to keep your home organized every day.
Most important tip, teach your children to be organized too. Show them everything in your home has a place it belongs and teach them to put things away right the first time.
