Hidden Treasures at your Local Library
As your children grow, they will out grow the picture books they had as little ones and need chapter books and classics to enhance their reading skills. Building a home library can be expensive. Did you know that most public libraries offer a “used book” section where you can purchase books? Usually these books are very inexpensive. Some libraries offer used books for $.50 to $2.00. The books I have found at our local library are usually in excellent condition (maybe read one-time). The books include all categories fiction, non-fiction, autobiography, science, textbooks, and classics. Don’t forget to look for books for yourself and your husband.
The library also offers digital and electronic resources. If you don’t want to worry about checking out and returning books (and late fees or lost book fees), try the electronic resources. If you have a library card, many books from the library can be checked out electronically. You can easily the books on your Kindle, IPad or other tablet or phone.
Your community library may also offer streaming services. You can “check-out” a digital movie for 24-48 hours and stream it to your TV or computer. Hoopla Digital allows library patrons to check movies, music and more with their library card. Check with your local library to see what resources are available to you.
Last, some libraries offer day passes to local museums and aquariums. Maybe you would like to visit some of the local museums and aquariums, but do not want to purchase annual pass, check with your library to see if they offer passes that can be checked out for 24 or 48 hours.
Your local library offers many resources, take some time to check-out what they offer. You don’t want to miss these treasures.
