Word for the Week – Present
Last night my youngest daughter and I were baking peanut butter cookies, it had been a long day for me. We have new furniture coming, and all day I had been busy in the house preparing by finishing some painting, moving old furniture, organizing, cleaning, etc…. When she asked to bake cookies, I really wanted to say no. But, it was important to her.
We started mixing the cookies and putting them on the pan. She was going slow. I found myself thinking, I can do this faster myself. Baking the cookies was just one more thing to check off on my to-do list. But then I realized it will only take a few extra minutes to let her help. Slow down and enjoy the moment. Be present.
In our busy world and frequent rush to get from place to place, we often miss the everyday beauty right in front of us and the special moments we can have with our children.
Take time every day to be present with your family and with your friends. Your phone will wait, your Facebook update is not that important. Be present with those you love right here. Right now.
Promises from God
The story of Mary and Martha reminds of us be present. Luke 10: 41-42, “But the Lord answered her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
Remember to take time and be present. Time with your children, family and friends will be your memories for a lifetime. Don’t miss the special moments because you were there, but not present.

I’m excited you shared this with #SocialButterflySunday! It looks like I missed this week’s link up, but I will try to make it back tonight to link up. Thanks for sharing and hope to see you link up again this week 🙂
You are so wise to have stopped and realized the importance of the cookie baking! Someday, your daughter will not remember so much the renovations you’ve made or the new furniture you’ve had, but she will remember that you made her feel important and you took time for her if you make it a regular practice. I know this because mine remember the many hours spent homeschooling, teaching them how to cook and drive, long talks on their beds at night, and lots of reading together. This is the real stuff of life, the stuff that matters.
Thank you for sharing over at Tuesday Talk this week I don’t believe I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting you and your blog, but it is lovely and I appreciate your wisdom here today! Will look forward to reading more of your posts in the future!
Hi Ruthie, it’s in these little moments that we get to make wonderful memories with our children. I know I have to pause and enjoy them or else I will miss them.
Thanks for the feature, Rachel. That’s so awesome!
KT, you are welcome for the feature. Thanks for sharing on Mom-to-Mom Mondays.
Rachel, such an important reminder and one I need on a regular basis. Thanks for hosting!
It can be so hard to remember to enjoy the little moments. We all have these overwhelming “to do” lists and it’s so nice to keep checking things off but I find those days I throw aside my list and enjoy the boys, our day, our discoveries together; those are the days we all remember.
You are right. Sometimes you just have to put down the “to-do” list and enjoy time with your children. These are very special memories.
Thanks so much for featuring me and hosting this link up!
Thank you for hosting Rachel! I love your word of the week, so important to take a step back and just be present. I hope those cookies were delicious, I’m sure they were, made with love and all. Have a great week.
Hi Mistie, The cookies must have been good. They were almost gone before I even got one! Being present is so important. With all our distractions, it’s easy to not be present and not even realize it. Thanks for sharing at Mom-to-Mom Mondays.
