Word for the Week: Equip
Hebrews 13: 20-21, “Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Just as our heavenly Father continually works to equip us to be all He wants for us to be; as parents, one of our primary roles in our children’s lives is to equip them. We equip them through education, through instruction, through mentoring, and through our example. Through the unique experiences God has given each of us as parents, we are able to equip our children to be successful adults, successful parents, and successful leaders.
Everything we do as parents leads our children to become successful adults. Every day we are equipping them with the skills they will need to become successful independent adults. As our babies grow, we teach them to feed themselves and dress themselves. Then we take them to school or train at home in a home school.
We teach them how to behave and how to treat others. The more they grow, we continue to mature and refine the skills we have taught them. Until one day, they are grown and ready to be successful adults on their own.
What skills can you teach your child that will help them be a successful adult?
It seems strange to think, but we are also equipping our children to be the next generation of parents. We want them to pass down our values to next generation. But if they are going to pass down our values, we must first teach our children our values. Don’t expect the school or the church to teach your children all your values.
Let it always be said our homes have strong leadership from the parents. We are equipping our children every day to train the next generation.
How can you model Christian parenting to teach your child how to be a good parent?
Eventually, our children will be the leaders of the future. We must equip them each day by teaching them what is right and giving a solid foundation of values. We teach them our values. We teach them eternal truths.
As we teach our children our values and eternal truths, we equip them to be strong leaders. The challenge for leaders in the future (or any time) is to lead based on unchanging truths not changing opinions of the day.
Are you leading today? Are you the example of a leader you would like your children to become?
In a challenging world that does not value right, we must equip our children to be successful adults, successful parents, and successful leaders. The future depends on it.
