Ingredients
Cake:
  • 1 stick butter softened
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • ¼ cup apple sauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cup flour spooned and leveled
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 ¾ cup green apples diced
Filling:
  • 8- ounce package cream cheese softened
  • ½ cup caramel topping
Topping:
  • 6 tablespoons butter cold and cubed
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
Instructions
  1. Prepare an 8x8 inch pan.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  3. For cake: In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugar, until light and fluffy.
  4. Add in egg, apple sauce, and vanilla. Beat until just combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, add flour, baking powder and soda, salt, and cinnamon. Whisk until combined.
  6. Add flour mixture to butter mixture, and mix until combined.
  7. Gently fold in apples.
  8. Pour into pan.
  9. For the filling: In a mixing bowl, add cream cheese and caramel. Beat until light and fluffy.

  10. 10. Dollop cream cheese onto cake batter.
  11. 11. For the topping: In a mixing bowl, add topping ingredients.

  12. 12. Using your hands, squeeze butter into dry ingredients. Keep mixing until crumbly.
  13. 13. Sprinkle topping over cake.
  14. 14. Bake for 42-45 minutes, or until beginning to brown.
