Homemade Mac & Cheese {like Grandma Made}
Homemade Mac & Cheese is a dinner classic. It’s always a favorite with the little ones (and that makes it a favorite with mom), plus it’s easy to make. No, I am not making the Mac & Cheese from a box, I’m making it like my Granny made – homemade.
I remember when I was growing up my Granny would make homemade Mac & Cheese. It was so good right out of the oven when it was hot and the cheese was all melted.
Here’s my Granny’s easy Mac & Cheese recipe so you can this classic recipe at home too.
Classic Mac & Cheese recipe your family will love.
- 8 oz Elbow macaroni, cooked
- 8 oz Mild cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup Milk
- 1/2 cup Butter
- Bread crumbs
-
Start by cooking the Elbow macaroni. Get a 6-quart pot, add 5 cups of water, bring to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook until tender. Salt if desired. Add a teaspoon of olive oil to prevent water from boiling out of the pot.
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
-
Prepare a 13 X 9 baking pan. Rub a thin layer of butter on the pan to prevent sticking.
-
Add the cooked macaroni, most of the mild cheddar cheese (save a little to sprinkle on top), the milk (add additional milk if needed to make creamy) and butter (melted) to the baking pan. Completely blend all the ingredients.
-
Place the pan in the oven and bake about 15-20 minutes until completely heated and bubbly. Sprinkle the top with the remaining cheese and add a few breadcrumbs if desired.
-
Allow to set for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy with your favorite veggies or a pork chop.
You may vary this recipe with different cheeses. You might try White Cheddar or a 4-Cheese Blend. Be creative and see what you and your family enjoy.
Ended up with macaroni and bits of melted cheese swimming around in butter and oil from the cheese. No evidence milk was even added, I even added extra.
What type (brand) of cheese did you use? I’m wanting to try this but not if you used a good cheese and it turned out this way
Last time we made this, we used a store brand (Target, I think).
