How to Spend Quality Time with Your Husband Without Interruptions from Kids
I would like to thank Eternity Rose for sponsoring this post and giveaway. All opinions in this post are those of Smart Mom Smart Ideas.
When I come home from work, all 3 of my kids suddenly have the most important thing to tell me and they all start talking at one time. Does this ever happen to you? Or as soon as my husband and I start a conversion, one of the kids comes running in with a loud announcement or shocking discovery we must stop and hear right this minute. When you have kids, some days you probably wonder how to spend quality time with your husband without interruptions from kids.
At our house, we usually always have kids around the house except during the school day. Evenings and weekends are filled with kids, homework, and activities. Most of the time it’s hard to find a quiet minute, what about you?
6 Unique Ways to Connect with Your Husband
Be Intentional
If you don’t have a plan to connect with your husband, most likely it won’t happen. You will need to be intentional with your plans.
You can watch a favorite TV show every week after the kids go to sleep or binge watch on the weekend. If your kids are old enough to stay home alone a few minutes, take a 10-minute walk around your neighborhood every evening.
Make a determination to set aside time for your husband.
Use Unexpected and Stolen Moments
Every once and a while all 3 of our kids will be gone on activities or over at friend’s houses all at the same time. It might only be for an hour or so, but it’s the perfect time to share a few quiet and personal moments with your husband.
Depending on your schedules, you might find you have these moments more often than expected.
Pay attention and make note of when your house might be empty (or create a time when your house can be empty like sending the kids to grandma’s or their aunt’s for an hour or two) and sneak off for lunch, dinner or a fun movie.
Have a Favorite Activity or Hobby to Share
Once every week or once a month, spend time on a favorite hobby you both enjoy. It could be solving puzzles or making dinner together. It could be running or working out together.
Here are a few more ideas:
- Hiking/camping
- Biking
- Walking
- Golfing or Tennis
- Playing cards/table games
- Photography
- Any activity that allows you to talk and connect (not distracted on computers or electronic devices)
Figure out what your favorite hobby or activity is to do together and make time to share it.
Make Time for a Monthly Date
At least once a month, go on a date with your husband. You could do a traditional date like dinner and a movie or a simple lunch date or picnic in the park. Be creative. Remember the types of activities you enjoyed before you had kids, try to keep doing these activities at least once and a while.
Allow 15 Minutes a Day to “Talk”
Take time for a personal conversion. Spend time talking to your husband.
Every day when I come home from work, my husband will usually ask me how was my day and what happened. We usually spend time talking about different things we did and what we liked and did not like during the day. It’s a great way to connect with your husband and a long day a work.
Celebrate Special Days
We all have special days. Birthdays and anniversaries, but what about celebrating all the special days like the day you met, or the anniversary of your first date, or the anniversary of the date you got engaged.
All couples have their own unique special dates. Write your special dates on a calendar and celebrate them each year.
