10 Self-Care Ideas for Moms to Relax and {just breathe}
Mom, are you too busy? I feel busy. From the moment I get up to the moment I go to bed, it feels like one long day of go! go! go! Racing to get children to school on time, hurrying to work, after-school activities (or coordinating them with others to get children places), homework, dinner, chores and more… The day just moves so fast. Because we are so busy, it’s important we also allow self-care time, too.
We take care of our children, we take care of our husband, we keep our home clean and running smoothly, we go to work. All this busyness can be overwhelming for moms. We need to take some time and relax just for us. We need to take a moment and just breathe. Even if you only have a few minutes each day or you add a favorite activity at the end of each day setting aside just for mom time should be a priority.

10 Self-Care Ideas for Moms to Relax and {just breathe}
- Take a hot bubble bath. A hot bath with quiet time is very relaxing especially if you can read your favorite book too. Even just a 15 or 30-minute hot bath can change your perspective and make you feel better.
- Take deep breaths. Sometimes we get so stressed and overwhelmed, stopping and taking 10 deep breaths will make a difference. Take each breath slowly and allow yourself to relax.
- Go on a fun date with your spouse. Do something just the two of you love to do together, but can’t do with your kids.
- Read a book by one of your favorite authors. Not hurrying or while you are waiting for soccer practice to end, but find a quiet place to sit down so you can read and really enjoy your book. Maybe after your children go to bed you can read for 15 minutes before you go to bed. Reading is very relaxing and a great way to get ready for sleep (much better than watching TV or scrolling through your Facebook feed).
- Have time with your girlfriends. Go to a girls only movie or have a girls only dinner. Spending time with other moms will allow you to share experiences and know you are not alone in your struggles. But, you don’t have to talk about parenting on your “girls night”, make it truly a fun girls night – no kid topics allowed.
- Enjoy a cup of hot tea or coffee. Slowly sipping a hot drink helps you relax.
- Prepare or order in your favorite dinner. Take the time to savor each taste and bite. Don’t rush through your meal.
- Indulge in your favorite hobby. Do you enjoy scrapbooking or knitting? Take time to enjoy YOUR hobby. All week and all day the during you are busy caring for your family, don’t put off your own hobbies and interests. Plan a special time at least once a week to work on your favorite hobby, too.
- Join a club. Maybe you would like to learn how to make pottery or be in a book club. Find a club in your community that fits your interests, take a friend with you. As a bonus, you will get to meet new people and make new friends.
- A weekend getaway (no children). For our 15th wedding anniversary, my husband and I did a weekend getaway with no children. How relaxing this weekend was. Only adult talk, no children interrupting us, no worrying about children and their petty bickering and it was quiet. If you have not taken a quiet weekend trip with your spouse, I recommend you try it. Just one night will make a difference.
